Wondering why there are so many people talking about CRM? What’s the importance of a CRM and how can it help my business?
Firstly, if you don’t know what a CRM is, it’s a tool you can use to build relationships with your leads and clients. You do this by collecting information and using it to connect and communicate with your potential and actual clients.
It’s defined as Customer Relationship Manager hence why we build relationships. Since we are focused on service-based businesses, we will refer to CRM as a client relationship manager.
Depending on your CRM tool, it’s excellent for improving your client’s journey and experiences through your business. It allows for better communication or response time and helps take many tasks off your hands through automation.
What is the role of a CRM in Marketing?
Note that marketing or digital marketing is marketing on platforms to attract prospective clients (to build awareness of the brand or service). The CRM adds human elements by individualising clients using the data to send personalised information.
How do you obtain this data?
Either through research or your audience, give you the information through forms and the interactions you have with them.
The data collected allows marketers to group the data sending clients information that they are more likely to be interested in (so it’s specific and very personal as much as possible).
You can optimise your marketing through automation, saving you time and money. Let’s not forget processing costs in terms of automated invoices, contracts and data collection. This reduces errors in your processes and improves client experience (if I haven’t said that already). Client experience is key to converting your leads.
One of the good things about a CRM is that businesses which are fast-paced or tend to attract many leads will be able to handle such demands. As a result, waiting times are cut short and leads get the same experience and don’t slip through the cracks.

Another thing I love about a CRM is that it supports your memory meaning, even if you forget who you were interacting with, all the details are still available to you (as long as it’s well documented).
I have a rule to always document any activity straight away if not within the first 24 hours; otherwise, you’ll forget everything or key information. It’s also about sharing information with your team members so that they know what’s happening.
There you have it, a quick and basic overview of how a CRM works in marketing.
Data is king!!
